Yukon is a city within Canadian County, Oklahoma and it is considered part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. Yukon was founded in 1891 by A.N.Spencer and was named after the Yukon River in Alaska. The cities founder had been a cattleman before turning to a career as a railroad builder. Spencer was building a rail line between Arkansas and El Reno when he took on the task of building the town. He bartered for half the lots owned by one Minnie Taylor and one Luther S. Morrison, in exchange he agreed to lay the train tracks through town. Spencer then purchased two quarter sections of land south of main street. Lastly Spencer and his brother named the town after the Alaskan river. In 1898 immigrants from Bohemia, began gathering in Yukon. Bohemia later split into the nations of Moravia and Czechoslovakia and the immigrants became known as Czechs. The town has felt a connection to its Czech roots ever since.

According to the 2000 census Yukon had 21,043 residents spread over 7,830 households. The three largest ethnic groups in the city are Caucasian at 90.93% of the population, Hispanic and Latino with 3.01% of the population and Native Americans with 2.68% of the total population. The median family income in the city was $52,646 and the cost of living in Yukon is 14.20% lower than the national average making it an affordable place to live.
