The city of Guthrie, Oklahoma is the county seat of Logan County, Oklahoma. Guthrie began as they territorial capital of Oklahoma and later was the state capital. Today Guthrie is home to over 10,000 residents and is considered part of the Oklahoma City Metroplex. Because Guthrie lost its prominence rather early in it’s history it has a well-preserved Victorian enclave. Guthrie has retained a large collection of late nineteenth center/early twentieth century commercial architecture and its historic district is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Guthrie was largely settled on April 22, 1889 has part of the land run of 1889. It took about six hours for 10,000 people to stake their claims in the area. The post office of Guthrie was established on April 4, 1889. In 1907 Guthrie became the state capital but in 1910 the capital was moved to Oklahoma City. After the move of the state’s capital Guthrie began to dwindle allowing the architecture to be preserved unlike many other cities. Today Guthrie hosts Historic Trolley Tours and keeps history alive at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and the Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum.

The Education of Guthrie’s youth is provided by the Guthrie public schools, they have six campuses that serve pre-k through high school. St. Mary Catholic schools is the primary private school in the city. For vocational education there is the Guthrie Job Corp Center or Meridian Technology in nearby Stillwater. Higher education can be obtained at Oklahoma State University, Langston University, University of Central Oklahoma which are all located in nearby cities and towns.
